[KB378] Configuration requirements before installing ESET endpoint products in a domain network

Issue

  • To perform a remote installation of ESET endpoint products in a domain network, the Windows Firewall must be disabled and File and Print sharing must be allowed.

NOTE:

The procedure below is designed for administrators installing to computers that are part of a Windows 2003 Active Directory (The operating system shown in the steps below is a Windows Server 2003 computer with SP1 installed).

Solution


I. Create a Group Policy Object that will turn off the Windows firewall or allow File and Print sharing

  1. Download and install Microsoft Group Policy Management Console with Service Pack 1 on your server from the Microsoft Download Center:
  2. Open the Microsoft Group Policy Management console.
     
  3. Right-click Group Policy Objects and then select New from the context menu to create a new Group Policy Object.

  1. Enter the name of the object and click OK.

  1. Right-click the new object and select Edit.

  1. Expand Computer ConfigurationAdministrative TemplatesNetworkNetwork ConnectionsWindows Firewall and click Domain Profile. Right-click Protect all network connections and select Properties from the context menu.

Important!

If you want to allow File and Print sharing, right-click Allow file and print sharing exception and select Properties.

  1. Select Disabled and click OK.

  1. Right-click the domain and select Link an Existing GPO to create a link for the Group Policy Object (GPO). This will assure the use of the object in the chosen domain.

  2. In the Select GPO window, select the Group Policy object that you just configured and click OK.

The setting will be applied to workstations in the chosen domain. Proceed to part II to apply additional items to your Group Policy from the Push Installation Requirements and Checklist.

II. Complete all the items on the Push Installation Requirements and Checklist

  1. Use the Group Policy Management Console to apply the items in the Push Installation Requirements and Checklist below:
