[KB8050] Disable Windows update or Windows Firewall notifications in ESET PROTECT On-Prem

Issue

Required user permissions

This article assumes that you have the appropriate access rights and permissions to perform the tasks below.

If you use the default Administrator user or are unable to perform the tasks below (the option is unavailable), create a second administrator user with all access rights.

Update Windows 10 drivers

On machines with Windows 10, it might be necessary to manually update certain devices or drivers.


Disable Windows Update notifications in ESET PROTECT On-Prem

  1. Open ESET PROTECT On-Prem in your web browser and log in.

  2. Click Policies, select the policy you want to modify and click ActionsEdit.

  3. Click SettingsTools, and expand Microsoft Windows Update.

  4. Select No updates from the Notify about Microsoft Windows system updates drop-down menu.

  5. Click Finish to apply the changes. Client computers will receive the policy changes the next time they check in to ESET PROTECT On-Prem.

Disable Windows Security Center Alerts

  1. Open ESET PROTECT On-Prem in your web browser and log in.

  2. Click Policies and select the ESET Management Agent policy assigned to the client computers that you want to disable Windows Security Center alerts. Click ActionsEdit.

  3. Click Settings and expand Advanced Settings. In the Operating System section, click the toggle next to Report if operating system is not up-to-date to disable it. Click Finish to apply changes.

Disable Windows Firewall notifications in ESET PROTECT On-Prem

  1. Open ESET PROTECT On-Prem in your web browser and log in.

  2. Click Policies and select the ESET Management Agent policy assigned to the client computers that you want to disable firewall alerts from Windows Security Center. Click ActionsEdit.

  3. Click Settings and expand Advanced Settings. In the Operating System section, click the toggle next to Report network firewall issues to disable it. Click Finish to save your changes.

Monitoring of ESET Firewall remains functional

Monitoring of the ESET Firewall is fully functional after you disable Windows Firewall notifications.

Manually update Windows 10 drivers

In Microsoft Windows 10, the operating system update delivery may cause some device or driver updates to fail during a normal operating system update. You will continue to be notified of available updates by your ESET product. To resolve this issue, perform a manual update on these devices and drivers.

  1. On your keyboard, press the Windows key and type device manager into the search bar. Click Device Manager.

  2. Click View Show hidden devices.

  3. Navigate to the driver or device that requires a manual update, right-click it, and click Update driver from the context menu.

  4. Click Search automatically for updated driver software. If an update is available, it will automatically be installed. In some cases, a system restart may be required to allow the newer driver to load.
