Known issues in ESET Smart Security 7 and ESET NOD32 Antivirus 7

A new version has been released

A new version of ESET Smart Security and ESET NOD32 Antivirus has been released. We highly recommend that you upgrade to the latest version.

  • Remember: ESET Smart Security and ESET NOD32 Antivirus 9 use a License Key for activation. What is a License Key?

Known issues with ESET Smart Security / ESET NOD32 Antivirus version 7:

  • Firewall may block some outgoing connections
  • Antispam module may occasionally report problems with processing requests
  • Some product settings may prevent toast notifications from showing up on Windows 8/8.1

Toast notifications are small pop-ups or messages that provide users with simple feedback about the operation of their ESET product. If you are using a Windows 8-style application (for example, Internet Explorer) toast messages may not appear if, for example, an infiltration has been blocked.
  • Reverting advanced settings back to default will disable Anti-Theft even though product shows it's enabled
  • Antispam module may crash when "Write all messages" is enabled

"Write all messages" records all message spam scores to the antispam log. It can be disabled temporarily from Advanced setup. To do so, press F5, expand Web and emailEmail client protectionAntispam protection and then select "Do not write" under Spam score logging.
  • The communication of license expiration via the Protection Status icon inconsistent in the GUI

The product may communicate maximum security even though the license has already expired. For example, if you activate your ESET security product with an expired license, the protection status indicator in the Home pane of the main program window may be green (that is, in this case displaying incorrect protection status).
  • MS Outlook and Mozilla Thunderbird do not display ESET icons in toolbars

If you are upgrading to ESET Smart Security 7 or ESET NOD32 Antivirus 7 from older versions of your ESET product, update your virus signature database and program modules so that you have the latest versions prior to upgrading your software.

Upgrading from older versions of ESET products with an outdated virus signature database may cause installation errors, which can be removed only by performing a manual uninstallation.

The following issues were resolved in the GA build version 7.0.302 of ESET Smart Security/ESET NOD32 Antivirus released on October 16, 2013:

  • System error (BSOD) while using pre-release updates
  • GUI may freeze occasionally
  • Specialized cleaner is not included
  • It is not possible to configure an action to take after user connects an external device
  • Windows shows a dialog offering to format a device for removable media blocked via Device control
  • ESET SysRescue cannot create rescue media
  • Infected emails received via the IMAP protocol are not moved to the "infected items" folder
  • The communication of license expiration via the Protection Status icon inconsistent in the GUI
  • Attachments received through IMAP in Thunderbird or The Bat! may be corrupted when SSL scanning is turned on
  • Upgrade from older versions may disable all activation options but username and password
  • On Windows 8 Enterprise 64-bit installation may trigger BSOD if the previous version was not correctly uninstalled
