[KB3189] Resolve modules update errors in ESET home and small office products for Windows

Issue

  • You are unable to activate your ESET product after receiving an automatic upgrade
  • You receive the "General Compiler Error" message after upgrading to a new version of the ESET home or small office product for Windows
  • Your ESET product displays the message "Modules update failed" as shown below:

Solution

Make sure that you have the latest version of your ESET product

Many of the issues you might be experiencing with your ESET product have been resolved in the latest version. We highly recommend that you upgrade to the latest version.

Clear the update cache

  1. Verify that your internet connection is active by visiting the ESET home page. You must have an active internet connection before you can download updates.

  2. Open the main program window of your ESET Windows product.

  3. Press the F5 key to open Advanced setup.

  4. Click Update → Clear → OK.

    Clear update cache is unavailable

    If the Clear button next to Clear update cache is unavailable (the button is unavailable), restart your computer and attempt to update again (before you restart, click here to bookmark this article). After your computer has restarted, repeat steps 2-4. Clear should now be active.

  1. Restart your computer.

  2. Open the main program window and click UpdateCheck for updates. If the issue persists, uninstall and reinstall your ESET product.
