  1. What is ESET Endpoint Security / ESET Endpoint Antivirus?

    ESET endpoint products are the next generation of ESET's small business and enterprise solutions. They use scanning technology based on whitelisting of “safe files” that are cross-checked against a reputation database for optimized performance. Remote management of endpoint clients has been significantly improved, including easy integration with ESET Remote Administrator.

    These business endpoint products replace the former Business Edition products:

    • ESET Endpoint Antivirus (formerly ESET NOD32 Antivirus Business Edition)

    • ESET Endpoint Security (formerly ESET Smart Security Business Edition)

    • ESET Remote Administrator 5 (no name change)

  1. Can ESET Endpoint Security / ESET Endpoint Antivirus be used with ESET Remote Administrator version 5?

    Yes. ESET endpoint products can only be managed using ESET Remote Administrator 5. When using ESET endpoint products with ESET Remote Administrator 4, functionality will be limited.
  2. Do I have to pay to upgrade to ESET Endpoint Antivirus or ESET Endpoint Security from version 3 or 4 ESET Business Edition products?

    No, ESET customers with a valid license for ESET Smart Security Business Edition or ESET NOD32 Antivirus Business Edition can upgrade to ESET Endpoint Security / ESET Endpoint Antivirus for free.
  3. How do I upgrade to ESET endpoint products?

    To ensure full functionality and integration during upgrade, follow the instructions in the Knowledgebase article below to upgrade to version 5 of ESET server / endpoint products:

  5. Can I use version 5 of ESET Smart Security or ESET NOD32 Antivirus with ESET Remote Administrator 5?

    No. ESET Smart Security 5 and ESET NOD32 Antivirus 5 are for home users and cannot be managed with ESET Remote Administrator, are not suitable for use with ESET server products and cannot be installed on Windows Server operating systems.   6. Can I install ESET endpoint products on a server?

    Yes. However, ESET File Security for Microsoft Windows Server (EFSW) is a new product that is designed specifically to replace ESET endpoint products for use on servers (domain controller). Existing business users can migrate to ESET File Security for Microsoft Windows Server by contacting their local ESET office, partner or reseller.

    EFSW includes new features specific for server use. A key advantage is that recommended settings for installation to a server are built into EFSW (Automatic Exclusions), so there is no need to set the "best practices" exclusions onto a server operating system or desktop computer used in a server role.   7. Can I continue to use version 3 or version 4 ESET Business Edition products, or am I required to upgrade?

    Yes, ESET customers can continue to use version 3 or version 4 of ESET Business products and are not required to upgrade until ESET discontinues support for these products via an End-of-Life (EOL) announcement.

    However, the ESET Configuration Editor is different in ESET Remote Administrator 5.x, with separate branches for version 4.x and version 5.x settings. Configurations exported from client workstations running version 4.x endpoint products, when merged with a new ERA 5.x configuration, will only be applied to version 4.x machines. Client workstations with version 5.x ESET endpoint products installed will need to be configured again.
  8. What are the differences between ESET Endpoint Antivirus and ESET Endpoint Security?
