Resolve "Detected Port Scanning Attack" notifications

  • The "Detected Port Scanning Attack" notification below indicates ESET has detected and blocked an intrusion attempt—it does not indicate your system is infected.



Before proceeding

If the Personal firewall is blocking a program or network resource that you know to be safe, you can exclude it using the following Knowledgebase article: 

If you are not sure whether the detected IP address is safe, we recommend that you create a firewall log and contact ESET Customer Care for support. To do so, see the following Knowledgebase article:


I. Update your Windows ESET home product and run a Computer scan

  1. Verify Virus Signature Database Updates are downloading properly (these will include ESET Personal firewall module updates whenever they are available):
  2. Run a Computer scan.

  3. If ESET detects an infection, follow the steps in the Knowledgebase article below. Otherwise, continue to Part II.


II. Disable intrusion detection notifications

If your system is not infected, and you want to disable Detected Port Scanning Attack notifications, follow the steps below:

About these notifications

Remember that these notifications indicate that ESET Smart Security has detected and blocked an intrusion attempt—they do not indicate an infection. ESET will continue to block these attacks even after notifications are disabled.

  1. Open your Windows ESET product. How do I open my ESET product?.

  2. Press the F5 key to open Advanced Setup.

  3. Expand Personal firewall, next to IDS and advanced options click Edit.

  1. Deselect the check box next to Display notification after attack detection and click OK to save your changes. To re-enable these notifications, repeat steps 1-3 above, then select the check box next to Display notification after attack detection and click OK.
