How do I permanently disable the Personal firewall in ESET Smart Security? (5.x)

Issue

Warning:

To disable the Personal firewall only until the next system restart: Click Setup and then click Enabled next to Personal firewall in the Network section. In the Temporarily disable protection window, select Until next restart from the Time interval drop-down menu. Click OK to save your changes.

Solution

Set ESET Personal firewall to only scan application protocols (recommended method)

  1. Open ESET Smart Security. How do I open my ESET product?
     
  2. Press the F5 key on your keyboard to access the Advanced setup window.
     
  3. In the Advanced setup tree to the left, expand Network →  Personal firewall and click System integration.
     
  4. Select Only scan application protocols from the System integration drop-down menu and click OK.

Important!

When you are finished testing or troubleshooting, make sure to re-enable the ESET Personal firewall. For instructions on re-enabling the Personal firewall, click here.


Disable the ESET Personal firewall (until re-enabled by user)

Warning:

The steps below will disable HTTP, POP3 and IMAP scanning, which represents a potential security threat to your system. Use the following instructions with caution and re-enable the ESET Personal firewall as soon as possible.

  1. Open ESET Smart Security. How do I open my ESET product? 
     
  2. Press the F5 key on your keyboard to access the Advanced setup window.
     
  3. In the Advanced setup tree to the left, expand Network →  Personal firewall and click System integration.
     
  4. Select Personal firewall is completely disabled from the System integration drop-down menu.

  5. Click OK to confirm your changes. Your Protection status icon will turn red, and ESET Smart Security notify you that a restart is required.  After restarting your system, the Personal firewall will be permanently disabled.

Important!

When you are finished testing or troubleshooting, make sure to re-enable the ESET Personal firewall. For instructions on re-enabling the Personal firewall, proceed to the next section.

 

Re-enabling the ESET Personal firewall

  1. Open ESET Smart Security. How do I open my ESET product? 
     
  2. Press the F5 key on your keyboard to access the Advanced setup window.
     
  3. In the Advanced setup tree to the left, expand Network →  Personal firewall and click System integration.
     
  4. Select All features active from the System integration drop-down menu and then click OK to confirm your changes.

  5. Restart your computer. After restarting, your Personal firewall will be active again.
