[KB2900] Temporarily disable the startup scan in ESET Windows home products (15.x–16.x)

Issue

  • The system startup scan hangs or takes too long to complete
Disabling the ESET startup scan exposes your computer to risk

The following procedure is only a temporary fix to enable the resolution of a third-party application conflict. We recommend you check for other applications scheduled to run at startup and either deselect their startup features or uninstall the conflicting software from your computer. ESET is unable to provide support for third-party applications.

Solution

macOS users

  1. Open the main program window of your ESET Windows product.

  2. Click Tools → Scheduler.

Version 16.0 or earlier: Click Tools More tools → Scheduler.

  3. Deselect the check box next to System startup file check with the Launch time set as User logon (there will be multiple System startup file check tasks).

  4. Restart your computer. The startup scan is now disabled.

  5. To re-enable the startup scan, open the main program window, click Tools → Scheduler and select the check box next to Automatic startup file check.

Version 16.0 or earlier: Click ToolsMore tools → Scheduler and select the check box next to Automatic startup file check.
